Changes

These are the very first generation of floppy disc drives from Vortex. They came in variants having either a single ("S" variant) or two ("D" variant) DS/DD 80-track drives installed (BASF 6138).

An upgrade was available which allowed to upgrade a single -S drive to a dual -D drive. This was probably just a single BASF 6138 floppy disk drive which had to be mounted in the spare lower slot of a F1-S case.

The Vortex S- and D-drives were originally intended as upgrades to CPC 464 setups already having a DDI-1/FD-1. This adapter allowed to continue using the a [[FD-1]] 3" drive on these Vortex F1 setups. Since only two drives can be used simultaneously, the 3" drive had to be selected manually mounted using a RSX command("|S,1" as drive A, "|S,2" as drive B, "|S,0" to disable the 3" drive).
