Talk:Modify PC floppy drives

I have the SFD-321B/EZ floppy drive and its C16 soldering pads are empty from factory. How to mod it to DD-only then?
Unfortunately I don't know the answer, but try posting in the forum maybe... Gryzor 10:36, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- This model is similar, but not identical to those I recommended. But it looks good, as it still has the DC/RDY zero-ohm-resistors. About the DD-only: The basic difference between the revision I used and the drive on the picture is, that the pictured one HAS a switch for DD/HD detection mounted, so it is not hard-wired in either way. You can still close the HD-index hole on your disks with adhesive tape. In order to make the drive DD-only, it SHOULD be sufficient to remove SW1 completely, or to disconnect its connections to the board. (Pure logic: C16 connected = HD-only, C16 open and no switch = DD-only -> SW1 opens for DD disks and closes for HD disks -> SW1 removed or isolated = it can not close anymore).
- Alternative: Destroy the connection on the board that goes away from the topmost pin of SW1 via C16 (Note the junction that connects the connection from the topmost pin of SW1 to the left soldering point of C16). SpaceRat 07:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
