Ratings
The first ever Mastergame, Amstrad Action heaped a great deal of praise on the game with reviewer Bob Wade impressed by the "Brilliant character animation" and the "Terrific gameplay that is easy to learn but hard to perfect."
Coming along in the year of the original Karate Kid movie, The Way of the Exploding Fist certainly captured the moment and that was something that wasn't lost on the Amtix reviewers who in the magazine's preview issues commented that "Karate seems to be all the vogue at the moment on the small screen, perhaps because we've had to wait for programming skills to catch up with the requirement for realistic animation and fast graphics."
The ever pragmatic ACU were a little less excitable than their young press cousins bemoaning that the "Scoring is not totally logical" and that "There a couple of minor bugs in the program, neither of which harm the game in any way". Despite these criticisms, Fist was still awarded the magazine's 'Game of the Month' title.
