The Balrog, aka Stuart Whyte, was Amstrad Action's adventure columnist. He took on the role after Steve Cooke (aka The Pilgrim) left at the end of issue 45. Among Stuart's qualifications for the role were winning AA's "Adventurer of the Year" title previously.

Stuart's first column, in AA 49, actually appeared under the old name, The Pilgrim. However, Steve Cooke objected to the continuing use of his "copyrighted pseudonym" and hence the name change took place.

The final Balrog column appeared in AA 93, by which time most adventure games were home-brew releases. Stuart has since pursued a career in the computer games industry.
