:Uh... my fault. But not much time wasted as the process with conversion is normally very fast when using OpenOffice. I mirrored Kevins homepage locally and now use those files to convert the pages. :::Well, that's no problem, but the size of the compressed file is 25MB, so I am not sure if it makes sense to upload it here. I used [http://www.httrack.com/ HTTrack] for mirroring. I found this converter: http://www.uni-bonn.de/~manfear/html2wiki-tables.php So I guess I will use this one. If anyone has an idea about a better one, please post it here. Prodatron 02:05, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nice! There's also this: http://diberri.dyndns.org/wikipedia/html2wiki/ which seems nice enough, but until we try them we won't be able to see the problems they may produce. It's a good start however, given that the Rerource pages are not that complicated anyway! Gryzor
- After converting the first articles, I have to say, that both convertors have their advantages and disadvantages. The first one (Uni-Bonn) has sometime problem with tables and paragraph insertion. The second one (Diberri) leaves a lot of non-WIKI-conform HTML tag, but makes the rest of the job in a good way. I guess I will write a macro for Ultraedit for cleaning up the results of the second one and use this in the future. Prodatron 17:49, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
If you add the articles, please don't forget to add the wikilinks on this page, too. It's easier to get to the articles from here without searching. -Octoate 18:45, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Octoate, what exactly are you doing with OpenOffice?? I didn't find a "Save as Wikitext" option in Write... -- Prodatron 10:08, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry, here we are: OpenOffice -> Write -> File -> "Export..." -> "MediaWiki (.txt)". Seems to be a very good methode, too. I just had to insert border="1" sometimes for the tables. Prodatron
- I use the "Sun Wiki Publisher" extension for OpenOffice which allows to directly upload the article with OpenOffice. Btw, it would be cool if we can insert the "prettytable" classes into the stylesheet of the Wiki. That's what they did in Wikipedia and that's what OpenOffice relies to when exporting tables. Maybe it is good to have a "How to convert articles" chapter on this page, too, so conversion process can get somewhat unified. -Octoate 14:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Wow... that's amazing! And you say it can automatically publish onto a mediawiki installation? Fantastic... Gryzor

- Yes, sure. As long as this temp. page is existing this makes sense. Don't know if we should keep this page later, when all articles are linked in the "programming", "tech docs" etc. lists. Prodatron 19:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- I guess it would be a great idea to keep this article after importing all articles, because this gives a quick overview about what articles orginate from Kevin Thacker's great CPC website. -Octoate 23:09, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- This would be tantamount to having a category, but I dig it. A central page with all the articles linked... I think, btw, that the converter I found is better, because it can also pull entire pages so that you don't have to enter the HTML in it! As I said, I do have this other project so I don't have much time, but with this editor it could be faster... Gryzor
Attention: Already existing articles!
Before converting another article, please make sure, that it's not already existing in the CPC-Wiki. There are a lot of articles, which have already been converted in the past.
Example:
A guide to running software on a real Amstrad CPC/CPC Plus computer (old one by CPCLER)
A_guide_to_running_software_on_a_real_Amstrad_CPC/CPC+_computer (new one by Octoate)

- Btw, we should remove or mark articles which were already converted. -Octoate 18:42, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- Cool! Can you ZIP and upload it here? Prodatron
- Is there a meaning in offline mirrors? It's not like it goes up and down, or that it's big or anything... Anyhow, I think that something like Megaupload or Rapidshare would be better.
