This Vintage RM Nimbus PC-386/20 School Computer was purchased from Boston, United Kingdom via eBay Seller: bcc-148 on 28 Nov, 2020 12:16:07 GMT for £160 out of 11 bids with £10.00 postage - Economy Delivery.
The BIOS screen indicates that it dates to 1992.
Was the first 'PC' that I came across when starting work in a science department at a school in 1993.
Has been stored for many years.
Was fully working when last used. It was bootable from the hard drive and as I remember had a DOS based menu to launch a number of DOS programs. Windows 3.0 was also installed.
Unfortunately it does not now want to boot. It starts up as expected and appears to look for a boot disk on the floppy drive. I do not have a setup disk or other boot floppy disks anymore so I get stuck at that point.
The BIOS battery is clearly dead, but is intact and not leaking.
1024KB RAM, size of hard drive unknown but probably 40MB.
Unusual in that it has the 20MHz CPU, instead of the usual 16MHz one, which I understand is quite rare.
Overall condition is good for year, although there is a little yellowing of the plastic and the top case cover is worn as shown in the photos, but I believe that it is fully functional, if you have the correct setup disk.
Base unit only, nothing else included.
